The Art of Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance

A woman sits in the meditative posture of Falun Dafa, her inner experience and awakening mirrored outwardly in the aura and blooming lotus flowers that surround her. At the abdomen area is a Falun, or “Law Wheel”—a metaphysical wheel that is emblematic of the practice and part of its subtler, energetic workings. Millions throughout China begin their day in this manner, cultivating an inner calm and purity.

The Art of Truth, Compassion, Tolerance is a traveling exhibit consisting of works by 12 artists. Their backgrounds are diverse in terms of professional experience, artistic styles, and cultural upbringing, but they are united in an effort to express a myriad of experiences in practicing Falun Dafa.

It was the release of Professor Kunlun Zhang, arrested for his belief in Falun Gong, that spurred communication between the artists in 2001. Realist oil painting, or New-Renaissance, was chosen as the style for its narrative capabilities, accessibility and, above all, its simplistic purity. The exhibit would encompass four main themes: harmony, adversity, courage, and justice. By 2004, works that are part of the present collection began to be produced. Today there are 33 pieces in total.
